Dacorum welcomed St Albans at home on the 12th March for our first fixture of year for the Three Counties League. The epee team won 6-3 and the foil team narrowly lost 5-4, meaning that Dacorum won the match 10-8 overall. It was a fun evening, with a full team arriving from St Albans and a lot of elbow bumping in place of the customary handshake. It was a closely fought match, with a number of bouts won or lost with narrow margins. Well done to all and thanks to the St Albans team for visiting.
Dacorum welcomed Milton Keynes for the final Three Counties league match of the year. It was a well fought match against a side that are always a pleasure to fence. The Dacorum épée team topped off a successful year of fencing with a convincing win, beating MK 7-2, bringing their overall record for the year to a table topping 9 wins out of 10. The foil team also managed to secure a rare victory, after a series of very closely fought bouts. Well done to Ian for winning all three of his bouts, and thanks for organising all of the Three Counties fixtures for Dacorum over the past year. Thanks to the MK team for making the long trip down. Merry Fencing!
Dacorum had a busy week of fencing, with two league matches, the first away to Bedford on Tuesday, followed by a home match against St Albans on the Thursday.
Bedford matches are often tough and so they proved again, with both the foil and épée teams putting up a good fight but coming away unsuccessful, losing 6-3 in the foil and 7-2 in the épée.
And so to Thursday with St Albans, and a chance for redemption. The strong épée team excelled in some close bouts, and came away victorious, winning 6-3. The foil team fared less well, losing almost all of their bouts. So thank goodness for Ed, the hero of the hour, who won the team’s only point in his first ever league match.
Well done to everyone involved and thanks to the Bedford and St Albans clubs for an providing an enjoyable fencing week.
Dacorum traveled to Luton for the latest installment of the Three Counties championship. It was well worth the trip as the team secured tight victories, winning 5-4 in both épée and foil. The épée team excelled in a closely fought contest, securing their 7th win in the league this year to continue their successful streak. The foil team also put in a wonderful display to secure a rare victory, with less experienced fencer Jenny keeping calm in her last bout to secure the win. Well done to everyone , and thanks to Luton for hosting us.
Dacorum were pleased to host Bedford for a Three Counties League Match last Thursday. There was a good turnout and some great fencing, with the Dacorum fencers enjoying the challenge. It was good to see the sports centre buzzing with activity.
Well done to all who participated and thanks to Bedford for coming down.
